SOFT WASHING

Periodic exterior cleaning is one of the most important things you can do to ensure your home’s overall health. Soft wash cleaning is a low pressure washing technique that utilizes a mixture of bleach, algaecides, surfactants and water to safely clean delicate exterior surfaces that may be damaged with a pressure wash.

The purpose of a soft wash is to gently remove dirt, grime, pollen, algae, mold and other biological growth using a powerful (yet gentle) biodegradable liquid soap formula. Soft washing is gentler on the environment and is designed to make the surface more resistant to damage from the elements.

A soft wash is a method best used for more delicate surfaces that may be damaged by a higher pressure. Surfaces that are commonly soft washed include, but are not limited to:

  • Windows
  • Decks
  • Patios
  • Glass Doors
  • Roofing Shingles
  • Gutters
  • Downspouts
  • Siding
  • Porches
  • Screened Enclosures
  • Lanais
  • Fencing
  • Walkways
  • Outdoor Furniture
  • Driveways
  • Sidewalks

Pros:

  • Does not damage surfaces
  • Curb appeal
  • Helps keep algae and moss from growing back
  • Uses 90% less water than pressure washing
  • Can extend the life of the surface by preventing deterioration
  • Less expensive than replacing items prematurely
  • Protects surfaces from the elements

Cons:

  • If not done properly can damage vegetation
  • Requires more time and effort than pressure washing

Why Choose Professional Soft Washing?

While it may seem like an easy option to buy, rent or borrow the equipment needed for a DIY attempt, there are many reasons to hire a soft washing professional:

Cost And Convenience

Believe it or not, professional soft washing is often more cost effective versus doing it yourself. Once you factor in purchasing or renting the appropriate equipment (including chemicals and chemical disposal, protective gear, etc.) most people find that hiring a professional is convenient and more cost effective.

Quality

Using a skilled professional offers you peace of mind. Honey Do Men’s team of soft washing professionals possess the knowhow and experience to get the job done properly - every time. In addition, our top-of-the-line commercial-grade equipment ensures that your home’s exterior is properly maintained.

Risks

As with any home improvement project, there are significant risks for doing the job yourself. Aside from slippery surfaces, losing control of the hose (pressurized water alone can cause serious injury when misdirected), if not done properly the intended surface(s) are at risk for being damaged as well as being further exposed to the elements.

Landscaping Protection

Many people don’t realize that the solution used for soft washing can damage or kill surrounding vegetation (shrubs, flowers, plants etc.). While the solution is considered eco-friendly, improper application and cleanup can have a direct impact on any surrounding organic materials. This is yet another reason why it is important to hire a professional.

Soft Washing Vs. Pressure Washing

img-pressure-cleaning

While soft washing and pressure washing are both methods that provide your home with dramatic and transformative results, each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Knowing the difference is critical to your decision making process. Choosing the wrong service could result in damage to your property or undesired results.

To help you identify which method is best for you, there are a number of important factors to consider:

  • The surface you are trying to clean (e.g., roofing, decking, vinyl etc.)
  • Condition of the surface (e.g., is your brick wall damaged and crumbling or is it in great shape?)
  • Surface material (e.g., brick, asphalt, vinyl etc.)

Soft (Bio)Washing

  • As the name suggests, soft washing is a gentler, eco-friendly way to clean more delicate surfaces.
  • Uses room temperature water mixed with a cleaning solution.
  • The wand tip is wider to lengthen the sprays width, which slows down PSI (which utilizes 80% less water than pressure washing).
  • Uses 60 PSI or less.
  • No physical damage to the surface.
  • Can be used on roofs.
  • Can reach 40-80 ft. from the ground.
  • Effectively eliminates tough buildup and kills algae, mold and bacteria while still protecting the surface of your home’s exterior.

Pressure Washing

  • As the name suggests, pressure washing is used on tougher, more durable surfaces that can take the pressure.
  • Uses a high water pressure with no cleaning solution (because of the high rate of power used to clean).
  • Channels the water supply through a high-pressure pump to force water out of a hose and nozzle at extremely high speed.
  • Uses 1,500 PSI or more.
  • Can cause permanent damage to the surface.
  • Should never be used on roofs.
  • Pressure applied inches from the surface.
  • The water pressure will remove living organisms, dirt and grime.

Common Soft Washing Questions

Soft washing is a gentle cleaning method used to remove dirt, algae, mold, mildew, and other organic stains from exterior surfaces such as siding, roofs, decks, and fences. Unlike pressure washing, which uses high-pressure water to forcefully blast away dirt and grime, soft washing utilizes a lower-pressure water stream combined with specialized cleaning solutions to effectively clean surfaces without causing damage. Soft washing is particularly suitable for delicate surfaces or areas where high-pressure washing could cause harm, such as roofing shingles or painted surfaces.
